Tirupur: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has called upon the Union and State Governments to expedite the release of the entire grant of Rs. 320 crore promised for the dyeing units here to offset the capital expenditure incurred for setting up the Common Effluent Treatment Plants. “Speedy disbursal of the grant is essential for revival of the dyeing operations in the cluster, which had come to a standstill following the closure of all dyeing units by a court order,” CPI (M) district secretary K. Kamaraj said after the district committee meeting of the party here on Thursday. A resolution passed in the meeting also appealed to the authorities concerned to ensure speedy disbursal of the entire compensation amount to the farmers who were affected by the pollution of River Noyyal. The party wanted a moratorium on the repayment of all loans taken by the textile industrialists in Tirupur cluster till the dyeing units recommence their operations. “The moratorium should cover both principals and interest components," Mr Kamaraj said. He said it was injustice to the industry that the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation had been levying fixed monthly charges from the dyeing units even as the units were lying closed.
