VISAKHAPATNAM: A total of 1.5 lakh task force members will be raised under the Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj Sanghatan in the State, according to its Chairman Nagubandi Satyanarayana. The sanghatan will work for strengthening of local and civic bodies by pressing for implementation of the 73rd and 74th Constitutional amendments and NREGS. All over the country the task force aims to have 10 lakh members. Mr. Satyanaryana said though the amendments were passed in 1993, only eight States delegated powers to local bodies in all the 29 subjects. In Andhra Pradesh, in 10 of the 29 subjects, powers were devolved and in the 74th Amendment in eight of the 18 subjects. Mr. Satyanarayana told reporters on Friday that training was required at panchayat-level to make right use of funds and powers.
