Madhira Brahma Reddy reportedly consumed pesticide owing to financial problems
He was also a well-known industrialist in Nalgonda and was into pharmaceutical business
VIJAYAWADA: A Telugu Desam Party leader from Kodad and Madhira Institute of Technology and Sciences chairman Madhira Brahma Reddy, 55, was found dead in a hotel room here on Friday morning. The police initially called it a suspicious death but later confirmed it was suicide by Brahma Reddy due to financial problems.
The police said that Brahma Reddy parked his car at the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station in Hyderabad on May 25 morning and arrived in Vijayawada. He checked into a hotel near the railway station. Before arriving here, he bought new clothes and new bag. He was party Executive Committee member in the past.
As he did not come out of the room for over 48 hours and there was no response from inside, the hotel staff grew suspicious and informed the Governorpet police. The police entered the room through the side windows and found Brahma Reddy lying dead on the bed. There was said to be a pesticide bottle.
Assistant Commissioner of Police of Vijayawada West zone V.N.V. Satyanarayana told The Hindu that the body blackened because of consumption of excess pesticide and that the prima facie evidence showed it to be a case of suicide.
However, the CC TV footage provided by the hotel would be viewed for checking if there was any movement of suspicious persons at the room in the last two days.
A well-known industrialist in Nalgonda district, Brahma Reddy was into pharmaceutical business and was said to have ventured into real estate as well. According to the MITS website, he received the Rashtrapathi award for his contribution towards maintaining the standards and quality of life saving drugs for the year 1995.
The police said that Brahma Reddy locked his room from inside before taking the extreme step. Nalgonda Correspondent adds:
Brahma Reddy who has been reported missing since May 25 when he left alone driving his car to attend the Karimnagar TDP ‘Telangana Ranabheri', had spoken to his family members from Chintapalli, in Dindi police limits, in the night on the same day.
According to Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar, a week ago, he came to his parents house in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, where the family resides. Reddy was in the process of setting up a pharmaceutical unit in the Choutuppal of Nalgonda district.
The TDP expressed condolences over the death of its former State Secretary hailing from Kodad Assembly constituency in Nalgonda district, Madira Brahma Reddy.
