COMED-K to redo counselling

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Counselling for admissions to postgraduate medical and dental courses under the management quota will be held afresh through the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K).

The Karnataka Private Medical and Dental Colleges' Association and the State Government submitted a joint memorandum to the High Court on Friday stating this was to ensure that students were not affected.

The memorandum was filed before a Division Bench comprising Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice S.N. Satyanarayana on a petition by the association questioning the “unilateral” action of the Government in issuing a separate seat matrix.

It was contended that the Government's action had disturbed the seat matrix prepared by the managements to fill 67 per cent of the total seats under the management quota and resulted in more students being assigned than the number of seats in some disciplines. The association has decided to issue a fresh seat matrix and conduct a fresh round of counselling for 42 per cent of the seats to be filled through the merit list of COMED-K.

According to the consensual agreement, the colleges can fill 42 per cent of the total 67 per cent seats under the management quota through the merit list of the COMED-K PG Entrance Test, and the remaining 25 per cent under NRI, NRI-sponsored, in-service or other categories on their own.
