Activists, politicians and houswives find common platform to clear doubts

TIRUCHI: The maiden ‘Vision Tiruchi' programme on Friday, an initiative launched by The Hindu and Punjab National Bank, witnessed representatives of consumer and service organisations, professional bodies, human rights associations, political parties, students and readers making their presence felt in good numbers.

Members of the Consumer Protection Council, Tamil Nadu; Federation of Consumer and Service Organisations; Tamil Nadu Consumer Protection Council; Tiruchi Payaneettalar Iyakkam; Federation of Welfare Organisations, Tiruchi; Global Human Rights Organisation (GHRO), Tiruchi district Exnora, Youth and Students Exnora; Indian Medical Association; turned up with eagerness in the evening hours at the IMA Hall for a fruitful interaction with the chief guest K. Balamurugan, Regional Passport Officer.

Participants right from consumer activists, college teachers and home makers made the most of the opportunity by raising a plethora of questions related to passport services and Mr. Balamurugan displayed equal keenness to come up with convincing replies. Mr. Balamurugan's instant response evoked appreciation from the audience.

S.Pushpavanam, secretary of the Consumer Protection Council, Tamil Nadu, commended the initiative and said this will go a long way towards the progress and development of the city in various fronts. Dr. Ramprasad, a medical professional of Karumandapam, her echoed the view. M.Sekaran, president of the Federation of Consumer and Service Organisations, Sakunthala Srinivasan of the Payaneettalar Iyakkam, Bharatha Raja, president of GHRO, and others made the most of the opportunity.

C.Balasubramanian, president of the District Exnora and P.Mohan, state president of Students and Youth Exnora, commended the Passport Office for its various initiatives in the last few months. These efforts have simplified the procedures focussing on the convenience of the applicants and hailed Mr.Balamurugan for the same. The latest developments at the passport office have also facilitated the members of the public to get any assistance without much hassle, they pointed out. V.Arunachalam of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) urged the Passport Officer to strengthen the norms for ascertaining the genuineness of the records submitted by the applicants.

M.S.Ashraf, former national vice-president of IMA, K. Suresh, city secretary of the Communist Party of India, H. Ghouse Baig, secretary of the Tamil Nadu Consumer Protection Council, Ramakrishnan of Federation of Welfare Organisations, V. Ganapathy, advisor, Tiruchi District Exnora, students of the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Career Development of the Bharathidasan University, were among those who were present. Over 75 readers from different parts of central districts had sent their queries through e-mail and Mr. Balamurugan clarified their doubts.
