Accident victim's family gets 37 lakh
New Delhi: The family of a 35-year-old transporter killed in an accident involving a truck deployed to pull out his bus stuck in a drain three years ago have been awarded a compensation of over Rs.37 lakh by a motor accident tribunal.
“There was sufficient evidence on to show involvement of the truck in causing the accident of the deceased,” said Motor Accident Claims Tribunal Judge Rajiv Mehra awarding Rs.37,33,056 as compensation to Harish Chandra's family.
The accident took place on May 1, 2008, when Chandra's bus was stuck in a drain near Karkardooma in East Delhi and the truck was deployed to pull it out. Chandra was trying to link the two vehicles with a chain when the truck driver suddenly stepped on the accelerator and ended up reversing the truck, dashing it against the bus with Chandra getting crushed between the two vehicles. - PTI
