Allotment of sites sought

Staff Correspondent

Hubli: A large number of people, mostly women, took out a protest march in Hubli on Sunday demanding allotment of residential sites to people of the economically weaker section of society.

The protest march was taken out under the aegis of the Hubli-Dharwad Niveshana Rahitara Andolana. They marched to the residence of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister and district in-charge Jagadish Shettar and submitted a memorandum to him.

In 2009, HDUDA had conducted a demand survey and promised site applicants that residential sites would be developed at Gabbur in Hubli and Gulaganjikoppa in Dharwad.

But officials concerned were trying to postpone the project on the pretext that land was not available for the project. Mr Gurikar said that government land was available at Rayanala in Hubli taluk and Tadasinakoppa in Dharwad taluk.
