Gilani attended my father's funeral: Headley

CHICAGO: Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani had attended the funeral of the Mumbai attacks accused David Headley's father in December 2010.

This was disclosed on Thursday by Headley at a Chicago court during the trial of Tahawwur Rana, his co-accused in the Mumbai attacks case.

He told the jury that Mr. Gilani had attended the funeral of his father Syed Saleem Gilani and offered condolences.

Saleem Gilani was the former Director-General of Radio Pakistan and worked for the Pakistani embassy in Washington DC.

Denial

Denying the claim, a spokesman for the Pakistan Prime Minister's office said: “The Prime Minister never attended the funeral and had only visited Danyal Gilani's (Headley's half-brother) house to condole the death.”

The spokesman denied the report that Danyal Gilani works as a public relations officer in the Prime Minister's office. He is currently posted as the spokesman at the Pakistani Embassy in Beijing. — PTI
