Showers bring respite to Chandigarh

Chandigarh: After a hot, humid day, heavy showers lashed the city on Sunday evening, even as the mercury levels rose by a few notches in several areas of Punjab and Haryana following a few days of respite.

The city received 8 mm of rain, as mercury levels touched 39.4 degrees Celsius earlier during the day.

The local meteorological office said a passing Western Disturbance had caused the heavy rains in the city and in many parts of adjoining Himachal Pradesh.

Amritsar, recording a maximum of 43.6 deg C, up four notches, was the hottest place in the two States, the Met office said.

Patiala and Ludhiana, too, braved a hot day, recording a maximum of 41.7 degrees C and 41.6 degrees C.

Sizzling heat was also felt at Hisar in Haryana, where the maximum settled at 42.4 degrees C, up by one notch.

Ambala recorded a high of 40.2 degrees C, while the maximum at Karnal settled at 39.6 degrees C, up one notch. — PTI
