It is only with a sense of awe that the present management of the Besant Institutions of Mangalore - Women's National Education Society - can recall their unique origin and illustrious past. The Society, pursuing its own code of ethics evolved over the years by foresight and through experience, upholding against overwhelming odds, an education policy unparalleled in the country, feels proud of its efforts to promote education, irrespective of the class, caste and creed of the students or their social, economic and academic status. The Society has always been sensitive to the needs of its institutions for better infra-structure and other facilities as much as to the quality of education offered, catering to the needs of all age groups, by sponsoring and managing institutions ranging from the Pre-primary to the Postgraduate and Professional courses keeping in mind the noble ideals of the revered founder of the Besant Institutions Dr.Annie Besant and of the many visionaries who have followed in her hallowed foot steps to steer the progress and define the destination of the Besant Institutions. Besant Balavadi (co-ed.), Besant Higher Primary School- Kannada (co-ed.), Besant High School – Kannada (co-ed.), Besant English School (co-ed.), Besant National Girls' Pre-University College, Besant Women's College, Besant First Grade Evening College(co-ed.), Kodialbail and MSNM Besant Institute of Postgraduate Studies (co-ed.) at Bondel. It is heartening to realise that the national perception and perspective on education have undergone a sea change, making it crystal clear that education, the most potent ingredient for nurturing and nourishing the human mind has ceased to be the privilege and prerogative of a fortunate few and has gained recognition and sanctity as the birth right of any child. The Women's National Education Society at “Besant” have perceived and practiced for a long time what the policy makers of our nation have discovered only recently.
