Made his mark:German director Werner Herzog is considered one of the greatest figures of New German Cinema. BANGALORE: The Max Mueller Bhavan is organising a four-day programme in which films of German director Werner Herzog — who's also a producer, screenwriter, actor and opera director — will be discussed and screened. Herzog is widely considered one of the greatest figures of New German Cinema along with other greats such as Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Margarethe Von Trotta and Wim Wenders. His films are often based on people with unattainable dreams and ambitions that push the envelope of possibility. His other favourite themes feature individuals with queer talents. The Max Mueller Bhavan programme, which has been conceptualised by film critic and cinephile M.K. Raghavendra, will start on June 3 with an introduction by him. La Soufriere and God's Angry Soldier will also be screened on the inaugural day. Echoes from a Sombre Empire, The great ecstasy of Woodcarver Steiner, The Dark Glow of the Mountains will be screened on June 4. The Land of Silence and Darkness will be screened on June 10 while Fata Morgana will be screened on June 11.
