Sangha stages dharna in Chitradurga
Staff Correspondent
Chitradurga: The Sriguru Nulina Chandaiah Swamy Korama Koracha Kshemabhivruddhi Sangha on Monday staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office here seeking fulfilment of various demands, including internal reservation.
In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa through the district administration, the sangha said that around 40,000 people of the community were living in abysmal conditions in the district owing to lack of welfare schemes.
The people of the community were largely involved in occupations such as making ropes and baskets and rearing pigs. A majority of the people of the community were living in huts in rural and urban areas. Accusing elected representatives of neglecting the community they blamed the Government for not providing hostel facility to students of the community, which they said, had kept it educationally backward. The protesters urged the Government to provide financial assistance to students for education and houses under the Ashraya scheme to those living in Adishakti Nagar here.
