KOLKATA: Barely an hour after former Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee condemned the outbreak of violence in which workers of the Left parties were being attacked in different parts of the State, Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee said here on Tuesday that spreading “such canards” would not deter the new State Government from “developing and reconstructing” West Bengal. “It has just been ten days (that the new government has been formed) and they ( Left parties) have already taken to the streets. Why this impatience and such intolerance?” Mr. Chatterjee said while referring to the Left Front rally in the city where speakers protested against the atrocities being committed by activists of the Trinamool Congress against Left workers. On those criticising her government, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that it has just been in power for ten days “and they have become restless”. She said that she pitied those behind such criticism and forgave them. “Why are they (the Left) spreading canards and lies (against the new government) and exciting passions?” Mr. Chatterjee wondered. “They are obviously still suffering from the pangs of being removed from power,” he added. “The government under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee will, at any cost, ensure peace, harmony and unity with the help of those who have set it up. Spreading canards against it is futile,” he asserted.
