MRPS to step up pressure on State to achieve categorisation

Special Correspondent.

HYDERABAD: The Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi has chalked out a plan of action to step up pressure on the government to achieve categorisation of the scheduled castes into ABC& D, its president Manda Krishna said here on Tuesday.

At a press conference, he said they had fixed June 10 as the date before which people's representatives belonging to the Madiga caste agreed to take firm moves to build pressure on New Delhi.

Among the demands were that voiced at the MRPS State Executive meeting held on Monday were that Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy should lead an all-party to New Delhi and appraise AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of the need for categorisation.

Delegation

Also, the MRPS wanted that Minister for Higher Education, C. Damodar Raja Narasimha lead a delegation comprising people's representatives belonging to the caste to New Delhi.

Mr. Krishna said that between June 6 and 30, he would cover one district a day, across the State and address protest meetings in a bid to improve awareness among people and focus attention on categorisation. Between June 11 and 14, dharnas would be staged before the residences of all people's representatives belonging to the caste.

Three different ‘yatras' were planned, converging in the State capital on December 10 this year, he said.

‘Padayatra'

It would start with a ‘padayatra' from Hyderabad to Ongole between July 1 and 25 and a ‘cycle yatra' from July 27 to August 30, starting from Khammam and ending at Nagarkurnool in Mahbubnagar district, covering all the Telangana districts.

Public meeting

On September 1, a ‘rathayatra' would start from Kalikiri in Chittoor district and covering several districts, culminate in a public meeting here on December 10. The objective was to see that a Bill was introduced in Parliament during the monsoon session, he stated.
