Chitradurga granted 16 PHCs, 19 nursing sub-centres, five round-the-clock hospitals ‘Patients should not be made to purchase medicines from outside' Molakalmur (Chitradurga district): Minister for Health and Family Welfare B. Sriramulu has said that some 500 vacant posts of doctor will be filled in the State in a month. Speaking after launching development works worth Rs. 4.7 crore, including construction of a primary health centre (PHC) and a community health centre here on Tuesday, he said that 800 doctor posts were vacant in the State. Rural service The Minister said that in the past some 1,400 doctors and 5,000 paramedical staff were appointed on the condition that they would work for at least a year in rural areas. Stating that government hospitals were largely meant for the poor, Mr. Sriramulu pointed out that the Government had decided to provide better facilities to 8,279 sub-health centres, 2,310 PHCs , 188 community health centres, 146 taluk hospitals and 30 district hospitals. Scheme Mr. Sriramulu said that the Vajpayee Arogyasri scheme, which had been introduced in Belgaum and Gulbarga, would be expanded to cover the rest of the State. “The Ministry is in consultation with Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to extend the scheme to all the districts,” he said. Ambulances The Minister said that the State had around 517 (108) ambulances which had received over three crore calls, and around 4.5 lakh delivery cases had been attended to. “To upgrade medical facilities in backward regions as per the D.M. Nanjundappa Committee report, priority has been given to Chitradurga district by granting 16 PHCs, 19 nursing sub-centres, and five round-the-clock hospitals,” he said. Mr. Reddy urged doctors to be compassionate with patients. Warning The Minister warned that stern action would be taken against hospital staff found prescribing medicines to be bought from outside.. “The Government is releasing enough medicineto government hospitals, and funds are also being released to all hospitals to purchase medicine. If the demand is more, hospitals can seek additional funds from the Government, but in no case can the staff send patients to buy medicines from outside,” he asserted. G. Karunakara Reddy, Minister for Revenue, N.Y. Gopalkrishna, MLA, and G.H. Tippareddy, MLC, were present.
