SRIKAKULAM: For the first time in the State, Srikakulam district administration has introduced on-line payment system for all the ration shop dealers from June, 2011 to avoid inordinate delay in issuing release orders and lifting essential commodities from stock points. The ration shop dealers who used to move around banks, civil supplies department and MRO offices can straightaway pay the amount through AP-Online to get the release orders immediately. The new system will check corruption while ensuring speed and transparency in distribution of essential commodities to poor and middle class sections. It is an open secret that fair price shop dealers are being forced to bribe at every level before lifting the stock with the clumsy procedure being adopted all these years. Srikakulam Joint Collector E.Sridhar who observed the malpractices asked the civil supplies department to update the information of each and every fair price shop so that it would be easy to know the stock position, requirement, payment details within no time. “We are getting positive responses over the new system as all the 700 dealers need to worry about delay in getting release orders. They can lift the stock as soon as payment is done through AP-Online,” Mr.Sridhar said. “We are also collecting mobile numbers of 7 lakh ration card holders. We will send messages immediately after the stock is lifted by the respective dealer. It will act as a deterrent and make dealers to sell the commodities promptly,” he added.
