NEW DELHI: Two senior government officials have been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.60,000 from a junior official for upgrading his annual confidential report. The arrested officers are Jati Ram Meena, Joint Director in the Union Defence Ministry's Directorate-General of Resettlement, and S. K. Gupta, Deputy Director-General in the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The CBI received a complaint from the official alleging that he was being asked to pay a bribe to get his annual confidence report upgraded. Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and arrested the Defence Ministry official when he was allegedly accepting the bribe amount from the complainant. The Tribal Affairs Ministry official was arrested subsequently. Searches were subsequently carried out at the official and residential premises of the accused officials. “The evidence collected so far is being assessed,” said a CBI official.
