Synthetic flooring at table tennis hall

CHENNAI: In a welcome development, the SDAT-AKG Table Tennis Development Centre at the Nehru Stadium, has laid a permanent synthetic flooring in the playing area.

At the launch here on Friday, A. Srinivasa Rao, chief coach of the Club, said “such flooring is normally used in Table Tennis Federation of India-organised tournaments like the National zonal tournaments and the National championships but only temporarily. It is better than the wooden flooring from the players' point of view, as it is softer and therefore reduces stress on ankle and knee. The bounce of the ball, he stressed, will be even.

Satyabrata Sahoo, Member Secretary, SDAT, was the chief guest. Other dignitaries present were D.V. Sundar, Secretary, Tamil Nadu Table Tennis Association, G. Jagannath, former National champion, V. Chandrasekar, three-time National champion and India's top paddler Sharath Kamal.
