PALAKKAD: The Palakkad Management Association and the Kanjikode Industries Forum will jointly organise a three-day industrial exhibition (Indexpo-2011) at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium here from November 25 to 27. Organising committee chairman K.S. Mani; general convener K. Pankajakshan, and publicity committee convener A. Santhan Menon told the media here on Saturday that the exhibition aimed to make Palakkad a new investment destination. Industrial belt The Kanjikode- Pudussery- Walayar industrial belt in the district had emerged as the State's new industrial investment destination. They said if the decks were cleared for the proposed rail coach factory at Kanjikode, Palakkad would witness an industrial boom as nearly 100 ancillary units would come up to supply equipment to the factory. Already BEML Limited, a mini-ratna company under the Ministry of Defence, had started two new manufacturing units at Kanjikode with an investment of over Rs.300 crore. Textile park An integrated textile park constructed by Kinfra on a 300-acre plot nearby to house major textile units had also started functioning. Now a mini-airport was proposed at Yakkara in Palakkad town and 65 acres had been identified for the project being implemented by the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation. The proximity of Palakkad to the industrial city of Coimbatore and the textile city of Tirupur was an added advantage. Strategic advantage Palakkad had strategic advantage compared to any other town in the State to become the new industrial investment destination, they said.
