State mulls revamp of scribes' pension scheme

Staff Reporter

MALAPPURAM: Minister for Tourism and Culture A.P. Anil Kumar said here on Saturday that the government would consider restructuring the pension system for journalists. He was speaking in response to a memorandum submitted to the government demanding statutory pension for journalists.

Inaugurating a farewell meeting accorded by Malappuram Press Club to senior journalist T.K. Ratnakaran on his retirement from Desabhimani, Mr. Anil Kumar said he would do his best to help out journalists. He said the government would examine the demand for statutory pension. Mr. Anil Kumar said the intervention of media was necessary to lead society through a path of virtue. “Our future depends on how best our media function,” he said.

Press Club treasurer Salim Aydeed presided over the function. District Information Officer V.P. Sulabha released the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ)'s district members' directory by handing over a copy to Paloli Kunhahamed.
