Ramnad village selected for national initiative

Special Correspondent

To overcome the challenges of climate change

RAMANATHAPURAM: Kalari, a village near here has been selected for the National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) programme by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Coastal Saline Research Centre, Ramanathapruam.

The village is relatively more vulnerable to climate variability like drought, dry spells, extreme rainfall, hailstorm, extreme temperature, cold and heat waves, frost, flood sea inundation, salinity and others.

The selection was done based upon the guidelines of Central Research Institute of Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA), Hyderabad, to evolve a mechanism to overcome the challenges of climate change and its consequences.

V. Ganesaraja, Professor and Head, NICRA Mission and KVK, Ramanathapuram, who visited the village, said many programmes would be implemented.

The scientists would visit the village to survey agro climatological imbalances.
