Couple attempts self-immolation

Kolhapur: Bhausaheb Ambildhok, 55, and his wife Bharati, 45, residing at Nandyal in Kolhapur district, came to Kolhapur on Friday and attempted self-immolation in front of the office of the Superintendent of Police.
According to the couple, the their complaint against Ramjet Dhonukshe in the village who allegedly did not return their generator which he had hired from them. When they approached the police station at Murgud, their complaint was not registered by the police.
Later, Mr. Dhonukshe and his associates allegedly attacked the house of Ambildhok and after ransacking the house, they beat up his wife Bharati. She was admitted in hospital at Kolhapur. The assailants allegedly ransacked their house again and took away jewellery estimated at Rs. 5 lakh. Mr. Ambildhok was threatened with dire consequences if he lodged a police complaint. The couple who alleged that the local police did not respond to their pleas, attempted self-immolation in front of the office of the Superintendent of Police. Superintendent of Police Vijaysinha Jadhav who just then assumed charge is investigating the case.
