Flash flood threat in Kottayam

KOTTAYAM: In the backdrop of the rising water level in the Meeanchil river in spite of a temporary respite from the heavy rain on Saturday, the district administration has announced a warning on flash floods, to those who live on the river side.
So far, the district suffered loss to the tune of Rs.31,73,200 from destruction to crops and houses.
This includes the destruction of paddy in 172 ha worth Rs.20,62,800.
Meanwhile with six more camps were opened on Saturday. Nearly 300 persons have been relocated from inundated areas in Kottayam and Vaikom taluks. The western low lying areas including Kumarakom, Thiruvarpu and Chengalam panchayats continued to be inundated.
