Seedlings on sale

KOCHI: Vegetable seedlings are on sale at the Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council Keralam (VFPCK), Kakkanad, to spread cultivation of vegetables and fruits in households in view of the next Onam season.

The cost is Rs. 5 per pouch and Rs. 2 each for seedlings in plastic trays, said a press release issued by the council here. Tissue cultured banana saplings are available at the VFPCK office in Kakkanad.

The council plans to extend its ‘Harithanagari' scheme in a big way this season. VFPCK is offering to set up household vegetable gardens at a cost of Rs. 3,500 per unit.

The council is also selling mushroom spawns. Those requiring large quantities may place their order a month in advance, the press release said.
