VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakhapatnam Steel Plant presented green awards to its employees on the eve of World Environment Day on Saturday. The awards were presented in recognition of their contribution to protect and improve greenery in and around the plant. Awards were also given away to the winners in painting, essay and slogan competitions held on the occasion. Large number of employees, children and housewives participated in the competitions. At the function held at Training & Development Centre in VSP, K.S.A. Krishna, Senior Environmental Engineer of AP Pollution Control Board complimented VSP for the initiatives to keep the environment in and around VSP clean and green. VSP had spent around Rs. 460 crore in stage-I and is now spending Rs. 1,150 crore for environmental protection as part of expansion project. It had planted 4.6 million trees and the residential township has three to five degrees difference in temperature, as compared to other areas in the city. VSP Director (projects) A.P. Choudhary congratulated the Environment Management Department for organising various activities and said that people should change their lifestyle to keep the environment clean and green.
