Man kills wife, attempts suicide

COIMBATORE: A 50-year-old man allegedly murdered his wife, Saraswathy (43), at his residence in LGB Nagar, Sivanandapuram, on Saturday.

According to the Saravanampatti police, Muthusamy assaulted his wife Saraswathy with an iron road after a fight broke out between the two. They said that for long the husband had suspected the woman's fidelity.

After assaulting her, he had attempted to hack himself to death, the police said and added that their son Mano Karthik, 28, who had noticed the two with injuries, rushed them to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. Saraswathy died at the hospital.

Muthusamy is battling for life. Karthik was bathing when the incident happened.

Muthusamy had, however, told the police that after Saraswathy had attacked him, he retaliated by hitting with an iron rod. She, in turn, assaulted him with the kitchen knife and also slit his throat. Probe is on.
