THRISSUR: The media in the country are protecting the interests of corporates, Communist Party of India (Marxist) Central Committee member E.P. Jayarajan, MLA, has said.

He was speaking after releasing a book, ‘Pathrapravarthanam – Vazhiyum Vasthuthayum', written by Dinesh Varma and published by the Kerala Sahitya Akademi, here on Saturday.

“The Nira Radia tapes reveal the media-corporate nexus. Corporate giants are controlling the country. The condition of democracy is reflected by the fact that the 543–member Parliament constitutes 306 billionaires,” he said. He said that corruption in media undermined democracy. “Paid news” has affected the credibility of the media. The media have been misused to influence people. Journalists who stand against hidden agendas of media houses are harassed and silenced,” he said.
