VIJAYAWADA: Activists of the Communist Party of India (CPI) on Saturday staged a dharna in front of the Government General Hospital demanding the State government to take concrete steps to put a stop to rabies deaths in the State. CPI city secretary and former MLA K. Subba Raju addressing the activists said ordinary people, who did not know the dangers of being bitten by dogs infected by Rabies, were facing the extreme penalty of death. But leaders of the ruling Congress, who were preoccupied with protecting their political interests, were blissfully unaware of the problems the poor people in the State were enduring. There was no hope for the poor unless dog bites were also covered under the Arogyasri programme, he said.
