NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government has constituted nine Special Task Forces at the district level to ensure proper safety measures in industrial units to overcome any incident of fire or mishap, Labour and Industries Minister Ramakant Goswami has said. Mr. Goswami, who had announced constitution of the STFs in the backdrop of a fire incident in a shoe factory at Peeragarhi in which a number of lives were lost earlier this year, said they have been constituted with the approval of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to eliminate risk of injury or loss of life. Having a wider jurisdiction, the STFs will be empowered to carry out inspection of industrial units and identification of fire-prone units. Each STF will be chaired by the Deputy Labour Commissioner and comprise Inspector of Factories, Deputy Director of Industries, Assistant Commissioner of Licencing and Building Department of the MCD, Assistant Divisional Fire Officer, SDM Revenue, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Assistant Engineer Building DDA and Assistant Engineer Building, DSIIDC as members. The Inspector of Factories will function as member secretary. The STFs will submit a fortnightly report to the Labour Commissioner and the Labour and Industries Minister will review their functioning on a quarterly basis.
