HYDERABAD: To improve regulation of clinics, hospitals and diagnostic facilities under Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, health authorities of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts have intensified raids and decoy operations to catch medical facilities that conduct sex determination tests. The intensified raids comes in the wake of census 2011, which has indicated that there is no marked improvement in the sex ratio of females to males in the capital and Ranga Reddy district. Authorities said that several well-known hospitals in both the districts have failed to maintain records, essential to track usage of scanning machines. In Secunderabad, authorities had imposed penalty of Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 on Madhava Nursing Home and DBR Diagnostic Centre, S. D. Road respectively for non-maintenance of records. Several small and medium sized hospitals in Hyderabad district were penalised for a host of irregularities under PCPNDT Act. The hospitals include Anusha Hospital, Gudimalkapur, Vilada Maternity and Zanana Hospital, Murad Nagar, Institute of Radiology and Imaging Science, Nanal Nagar, Mina Maternity Centre, Mehdipatnam, and Sri Vidya Hospital at Mehdipatnam. “Importance of girl child should be drilled into the minds of public. Our efforts will continue,” said DMHO, Hyderabad, Dr. B. L. Veena Kumari. The RR district health officials seized scanning machines and record books from several hospitals.
