See and enjoy:Discus fish among the star attractions at the Corporation aquarium opened at VOC Park in the city on Saturday. COIMBATORE: A hexagonal building with 16 tanks of various sizes with a number ornamental fishes belonging to 16 different species is another attraction for Coimbatoreans. The Coimbatore Corporation embarked on a project to have an aquarium within the city and the work was entrusted to the Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development Corporation (TNFDC) recently. The Corporation completed the civil works, plumbing and electrical requirements and handed over the building to the TNFDC. A team led by Manager J. Castro of TNFDC had completed the aquarium work at a cost of Rs 7.1 lakh and was thrown open to the public on Saturday. The tanks would have largely gold fish varieties besides famous and rare varieties of fishes. The species include Orando Gold, Red Cap, Common Gold, Rukin Gold, Albino Gold, Red Oscar, Black Angel, Parrot, Tetras, Pearl Aravana, Discus, Tiger Shark, Calico Rukin Gold, Rainbow shark, Albino Shark and Silver shark, Koi Carps, Sea Angel, Singapore gubby and eel. From their natural conditions, the fishes have been acclimatised to the conditions prevalent in Coimbatore. It can neither withstand excess heat nor excessive chillness. Mayor R. Venkatachalam and Corporation Commissioner Anshul Mishra were present at the inauguration.
