Enhancing coordination, exchanging information on criminals with inter-district operations and controlling crimes were the outcome of the inter-zone border meeting attended by the top brass of the Central and West Zones here on Friday.

Held for the first time this year, the high-level meeting also deliberated the follow-up measures that needed to be taken on the gamut of issues that formed part of the discussions convened amid recurring incidents of crimes and instances of criminals taking refuge in a different region after committing an offence in one area.

The Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, and Inspector General of Police, West Zone (in-charge) C.Sylendra Babu, Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, K.Vanniaperumal, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tiruchi Range A.G.Mourya, Additional Superintendents of Police, Deputy Superintendents of Police of Crime Records Bureau of 16 districts falling within the Central and West Zones took part in the border meeting that was held at the District Police Office.

The nearly two-hour-long deliberation took stock of the missing persons cases registered and the number of unidentified bodies in both zones. Matching of the two were done in the wake of instances of missing persons in one district having been found dead in another district or even in the neighbouring zone.

The meeting provided an opportunity to share information compiled by the District Crime Records Bureaus with respect to criminals involved in law and order and property crimes besides gangs with inter-district operations. With criminals establishing their own network and taking safe shelter in another area after having committed the crime in one region, the exchange of profiles would help investigators in not only getting to know the modus operandi of anti-socials but also in tracking down the offenders, say police sources.

Depending on the nature of offence committed, law enforcers in the Central Zone have classified criminals under A++, A+, A, B, and C categories. Anti-socials falling under the A++ category are the most hardened lot for their alleged involvement in grave crimes. The sources said the meeting also discussed about the crime patterns in both zones besides reviewing the murder cases and the absconding accused. The objective was to enhance coordination between the law enforcers of both zones and share information about criminals especially inter-district gangs for detection of some long pending cases and to check offences, said IG Sylendra Babu. The DIG, Tiruchi Range, has been nominated as the nodal officer to oversee the follow up measures.
