Varsity decides to fix limit on intake for courses

Staff Correspondent

Belgaum: The Academic Council of Rani Chennamma University, which met here on Saturday, decided to bring in changes in the admission procedure and fix a limit on intake for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in affiliated colleges.

Expressing shock over several colleges admitting more than 100 students in one class/section for undergraduate courses, RCU Vice-Chancellor B.R. Ananthan said he would immediately take up the issue with the Karnataka State Higher Education Council.

He observed that it was unscientific to place students in congested classrooms. The intake limit had to be scientifically fixed, he said and added that a committee of deans would be set up to look into the issue and suggest appropriate measures at the earliest.

The members of the Council also suggested measures to amend the procedure for granting affiliation to colleges. They said that the university should have the right to recommend setting up of new colleges as opposed to the present practice of the government granting permission, without properly ascertaining availability of infrastructure and other facilities. The university also launched its official website.
