Staff Reporter

TTD suspends the accused, announces Rs. 2 lakh ex gratia to the victim

TIRUMALA: In a heinous crime, a TTD staffer working in the capacity of jamedar in the Vigilance and Security wing allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl on Friday night.

According to the Tirumala police, the accused, Dilli Babu, who noticed the girl wandering alone at TTD's Central Reception Office (CRO) in the vicinity of the APSRTC bus stand, took her to his official rest room promising to provide food and shelter. The girl informed him that she had fled from her home.

Taking advantage of the situation, he repeatedly raped her and on Saturday morning left her at the same place where he had picked her up.

The devotees passing by, who found the traumatised girl, took her to the police station where she narrated her nightmarish experience. The police swung into action immediately and arrested Dilli Babu. The police said that the girl hails from Kajipuram village of Bestavari Peta in Prakasam district. The TTD management on its part immediately suspended the accused and announced an ex gratia of Rs.2 lakh to the girl, besides exploring the possibility of providing a shop in Tirumala to her parents as a rehabilitative measure.
