Sarabjit's sister to meet brother

Amritsar: Dalbir Kaur, the sister of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, who is on death row in Pakistan, will cross the border on Monday to meet her brother in Kotlakpathrai prison in Lahore.

She will cross over through the Attari border before noon to meet her brother, known as Manjit Singh in Pakistan.

Ms. Kaur told PTI that the Indian Deputy High Commissioner and Sarabjit's advocate Owais Sheikh would take her to Kotlakpathrai prison. “I am heading for Pakistan on a month's visa. On reaching Lahore, my priority will be to see my brother Sarabjit in the jail,” she said with tears rolling down her cheeks.

“I will prefer to spend maximum time with my brother. However, this will depend on the time-limit granted by the prison authorities,” Ms. Kaur said.

“During my stay there, I will also meet Pakistan's top human rights activists Ansar Burney and Asma Jahangir who are frantically trying for the safe repatriation of my brother to India,” Kaur said.

She will also make an attempt to meet Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik who may arrange a meeting with the top leaders including President Asif Ali Zardari.

“I will also carry home food, new clothes, footwears, bath soaps, tooth pastes, towels and medicines for Sarabjit since my brother has demanded these things through his advocate Owais. . “I will also carry Indian sweets, chocolates, soft drinks, Odomos (mosquito killer), dry tea, dry fruits, pickles and body oil for him.”

Sarabjit Singh, also known as Manjit Singh, was sentenced to death for a string of bomb blasts in Lahore and Multan in 1990 which killed 14 people. He was set to be hanged on April 1 , 2008, but the execution was put off after Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani intervened. — PTI
