One lakh saplings planted

Drive:Students of BBMP schools planting saplings in Uttarahalli in Bangalore on Saturday.

BANGALORE: On the occasion of World Environment Day on Sunday, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will plant one lakh saplings across its eight wards. Transport Minister R. Ashok and Mayor Sharadamma will participate in the programme.

The civic body has more than six lakh varieties of saplings in its nurseries which will be planted on school campuses, hospital premises and around playgrounds this year.

On Saturday, 700 saplings were planted in Happy Valley Layout in Uttarahalli.
