‘Chief Minister favoured educational institution'
Special Correspondent
Y.S.V. Datta
BANGALORE: The Janata Dal (Secular) on Saturday released documents to show violation of norms by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) allegedly to favour People's Education Society (PES) run by M.R. Doreswamy, MLC.
JD (S) spokesman Y.S.V. Datta, MLC, told presspersons that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa favoured Prof. Doreswamy through leasing BDA's civic amenities (CA) site, for extending support to the Chief Minister's family in running Prerana Education Trust in Shimoga.
According to the documents, BDA leased CA site (No. 10) with a dimension of 115ft X 140 ft in Banashankari I Stage for 30 years to Sonar Yuvaka Sangha for developing Hayagreeva Kalyana Mantapa, a free hostel and a public library.
Even before the end of the lease period, BDA cancelled the allotment.
Based on a government direction, BDA issued the letter of allotment to PES Institutions on February 4, 2010, and the institution deposited Rs. 37,39,250 lease amount to BDA and got registered the site in its name on February 22. BDA issued the possession certificate on February 25.
Dubbing the entire transaction illegal, Mr. Datta alleged that rules were circumvented to favour PES Institutions, resulting in a loss of over Rs. 20 crore to BDA.
“None of procedures was flowed before sanctioning the lease to PES Institutions,” he said.
Mr. Datta defended the decision of the Janata Dal (S) to boycott the legislature session.
