From where did the Deve Gowda family get money for their ventures, asks Puttaswamy

Special Correspondent

BJP leader accuses them of indulging in non-transparent and corrupt deals

Bangalore: B.J. Puttaswamy, political secretary to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, on Saturday alleged that family members of the former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) president H.D. Deve Gowda owned several business companies to “legitimise” their wealth.

Mr. Puttaswamy, who released a set of documents related to companies owned by the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, his wife Anitha Kumaraswamy, H.D. Revanna, H.D. Balakrishne Gowda and other family members of Mr. Deve Gowda, charged that many of them were established after 2005, particularly during the 20-month Kumaraswamy government.

The BJP leader alleged that the Deve Gowda family had no right to talk against corruption after allegedly indulging in non-transparent and corrupt deals and sought an explanation on the source of income for setting up the companies. “Are they industrialists? Are they technical graduates? From where did they get so much money to set up the business establishments?” he asked.

Mr. Puttaswamy said that family members of Mr. Deve Gowda either owned or were partners in companies such as Kasturi Media Private Ltd., Channambika Films, Channambika Film Distributors, Amogh Constructions, Nikhil and Company, Raghavendra Enterprises, Annik Technologies Private Ltd., Deccan Network Inc., Pradhan Infotech Private Ltd., Asia Pacific India Private Ltd., Channambika Enterprises, Channambika Exhibitors, Jnanesweekar Foundation, Shiva Enterprises, BSK Trading Company, Rajarajeshwari International Polymer Private Ltd., Amsa Trading Company, Kunal Enterprises, Primal Enterprises, Mungaru Publications (shares), Bharati Housing Cooperative Society (shares), and Shakambari Enterprises.

Besides encroaching upon government land in Hassan district, Mr. Puttaswamy alleged that the Deve Gowda family purchased 231 acres in Anekal taluk.

“More corrupt and non-transparent deals in mining and other businesses involving Mr. Kumaraswamy will be made public soon,” he said.

Mr. Puttaswamy condemned the Janata Dal (S) decision to boycott the legislature session.

Congress and Janata Dal (S) leaders had wrongly understood the Supreme Court verdict quashing the disqualification of 16 MLAs from the House, Mr. Puttaswamy claimed and said that the Opposition, by boycotting the session, had failed to discharge its legislative responsibility.

The Congress, under the leadership of Siddaramaiah in the Assembly, had been marginalised and lost the support of the people which was clear from the recent bypoll results, he said.
