‘SMEs not being given enough importance'
Staff Reporter
Bangalore: The Government is not giving enough importance to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) while large industries are not ready to invest in defence and aerospace sector, Kota Harinarayana, former director, Aeronautical Development Agency, said.
Mr. Harinarayana was speaking at a seminar on the “Role of SMEs in defence and aerospace sector” organised by the Society of Indian Aerospace Technologies and Industries (SIATI) here on Friday. “It will be good if small companies get together to create ‘holding companies' making them financially strong in view of regulations”.
C.G. Krishnadas Nair, president of SIATI, said the scope of the Defence Procurement Procedure and Production Policy 2011 should be widened to include services, repair and overhauls.
Mr. Nair said that the major deterrent for SMEs is that as per the new rule, they can seek licence for defence manufacturing only if their minimum turnover runs to a few hundred crores.
