Bangalore: Despite making several representations to the Government, the issues concerning the State's advocates have not been addressed, according to the former president of the Advocates Association of Bangalore, K.N. Subba Reddy. “The Bar Council is a statutory body and is important. Its demands have to be considered,” Mr. Reddy told presspersons here on Saturday. He pointed out that several representations have been made to the Government demanding a site for the construction of Bar Council office. But without allotting land for the same, the Government has allocated Rs. 2 crore for the construction of the Bar Council officer. Mr. Reddy said they have written to the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court seeking amendment to the Karnataka Advocates' Welfare Act so as to enhance the compensation on retirement or death of advocates.Mr. Reddy said that the practise of displaying portraits of retired chief justices and of judges elevated to the Supreme Court in the first court hall should be stopped. Instead of continuing such practices, better infrastructure should be provided in the High Court by way of installing more number of digital display boards so that crowding in the two halls can be avoided. He also sought parking space on the High Court premises for the vehicles of litigants and lawyers. More benches should be provided outside court halls so that litigants and lawyers are not forced to stand outside the court halls while waiting for their cases to be heard, he added.
