Sharapova, Djokovic pull out
LONDON: Losing French Open semifinalists Maria Sharapova and Novak Djokovic on Friday both withdrew from their only scheduled Wimbledon warm-up events.
Sharapova withdrew from the WTA Birmingham event while Djokovic said that he would not play the Queen's club tournament. Andy Murray, beaten by Rafael Nadal, dropped a hint that he would check with doctors regarding his ankle injury before deciding whether to play as well in west London.
“I pulled out of Queen's and will rest before Wimbledon,” said Djokovic after losing to Roger Federer. Sharapova's decision came a day after the US-based Russian lost a Roland Garros semifinal to China's Li Na. — DPA
