Staff Reporter

Bangalore: A retired Major of the Indian Army was injured in a scuffle with four unidentified persons who allegedly tried to rob him of his valuables in Kempapura in Amruthhalli police limits here on Saturday night.

Injured

Major Deepak Iyer (Retd.) from Mumbai received injuries on the face and chest in the melee and has been admitted to a private hospital on Bellary Road in Hebbal.

The victim told The Hindu that he managed to save his mobile phone and other valuables from the gang.

According to him, he arrived from Mumbai on Saturday night and reached his relative's house at 11 p.m.

The incident took place around 11.25 p.m. while he was talking on the mobile phone in front of the house when the four motorcycle-borne persons tried to snatch valuables from him. “The gang could not snatch anything from me. And, after their efforts went in vain, they fled the scene on their motorcycles,” said Mr. Iyer, who is recuperating in the hospital.

Case registered

According to an officer at the Amruthahalli police station, the statement of the victim has been taken and a case has been registered.
