KOLKATA: The All India Football Federation is looking to hasten the process of remodelling the I-League on the successful Indian Premier League format. “With so much happening around football in the country, it is time we started the process of remodelling the I-League format,” said Subrata Dutta, the All India Football Federation senior vice-president on Monday. I-League was conceived as the next stage of development after the National Football League. “It is now time to go even further and have the franchise system introduced so that the international stars can play, like what we have seen in cricket,” Dutta said. With the Asian Football Confederation asking the AIFF to introduce club licensing from this year, the National federation is thinking of putting in place the franchise system to attract big money. The remodelling of the I-League will be done in conjunction with IMG Reliance which has acquired the commercial rights of the national body. “We have already placed the proposal of redesigning the I-league to our commercial partner and expect it to come up with a plan pretty soon,” Dutta said.
