High Court moved against SIC order

Special Correspondent

Kochi: A writ petition was filed in the Kerala High Court on Tuesday challenging an order of the State Information Commission (SIC) rejecting an application seeking a directive to the public information officer in the police to give a copy of the report submitted by former Additional Director-General of Police Siby Mathews on unholy relationships between police officers and criminals.

The petition was filed by Joseph M. Puthussery, former MLA.

According to Mr. Puthussery, he had filed an application seeking information about the relationship between the police and criminals under the Right to Information Act before the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, who is the public information officer in the police.

Mr. Puthussery wanted to know whether the Additional DGP had submitted a detailed report regarding the police connections with criminals.

Mr. Puthussery also sought information about the action, if any, taken on such a report. The information officer rejected his application on the ground that it was confidential.

The appellate authority, Inspector General of Police (Administration), also dismissed his appeal.

The petitioner said the order issued by the State Information Officer was also erroneous.
