Muniyappa says he has held discussions with Yeddyurappa on land required for the project

The Minister says priority will be given to government land for setting up the unit

Kolar: The preliminary process for setting up of railway wagon-manufacturing unit in Kolar district was set in motion with the Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa convening a meeting with the authorities of Railways and Revenue Department here recently.

The 2011-12 Railway Budget proposed to set up the wagon-manufacturing unit in Kolar district raising the hopes among people of the region about generation of employment opportunities.

Approximately 60 acres of land is required to set up the wagon unit.

Mr. Muniyappa has directed the authorities concerned to submit a report in connection with the availability of land.

“I have discussed the matter with Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa after the budgetary announcement regarding wagon unit. Mr. Yeddyurappa has given assurance that the State Government will provide land for the project”, the Union Minister said.

Survey is being undertaken in many places in Mulbagal, Srinivaspur and Kolar taluks to find land. Relevant information has been gathered regarding availability of land near Arikere in Srinivaspur, Kurudumale in Mulbagal and Muduvadi in Kolar taluk.

While the land available in Arikere and Kurudumale is government land, the land at Muduvadi belongs to farmers.

According to Mr. Muniyappa, priority will be accorded to set up the manufacturing unit on government land instead of acquiring land from farmers. “Acquisition of private land for the purpose will only be the last resort”, he said.
