‘Tainted' official may face probe
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: A day after issuing orders permitting former GHMC Additional Commissioner (Health & Sanitation) and Special Grade Municipal Commissioner R. Rama Mohan Rao, who was on leave, to retire voluntarily on personal grounds, the government, has backtracked.
In revised orders issued on Tuesday, Vijay Kumar, in-charge Principal Secretary, stated that the permission has been kept in abeyance following a report received by the GHMC Commissioner that it was proposed to conduct a detailed enquiry by the Vigilance and Enforcement Department for abnormal expenditure on repairs to vehicles during 2007-2008 and 2008-2009.
The probe included fixing of responsibility of the then Additional Commissioner (H&S), Chief Transport Officer (CTO), subordinate officers and external agencies.
GHMC had earlier conducted an internal probe through a three-member enquiry panel consisting of Additional Commissioners Rajendra Prasad, Anuradha and then Joint Commissioner Sai Kumar and assisted by a retired RTC official K. Saibaba recommended an independent probe by the Vigilance Department to the various omissions and commissions which occurred in the transport wing during the official's tenure.
The panel has found that there were some discrepancies with regard to purchase of spare parts and job works done in the transport wing to the tune of Rs. 9.41 crore and this needed to be investigated further.
