Burglars rule the roost in Tirupur

R. Vimal Kumar

“People should inform the police

if they were to

be away from the house for a long period”

Tirupur: A sudden spurt in property crimes, including a number of burglaries, in the district during the recent days is creating panic among the public.

Police sources told The Hindu that as many as 31 property cases, including seven grave cases, were registered in the district in the last one week itself.

Superintendent of Police V. Balakrishnan said that the people should inform the police if they were to be away from the house for a long period so that patrol teams could monitor the area properly and prevent house burglaries to a certain extent.

“We are even maintaining a register at the police stations to keep the list of locked houses,” he said.

The SP also cautioned the public against storing expensive jewellery at the house instead of keeping it safe in bank lockers. “Alarms can also be set up at houses where valuables are kept,” Mr. Balakrishnan said.

In the case of companies from where valuables were getting stolen, the police wanted the owners to deploy private security personnel for prevention of crime occurrence as well as install cameras inside so that detection of stolen properties could become easier.
