CHENNAI: An advocate was arrested on charges of assaulting a courier delivery man and threatening other advocates who tried to intervene on the Madras High Court premises here in Tuesday. According to police sources Karthik (25), a private courier firm employee, came to the court premises when advocates Vijay (25), Muthu (33) and two others enquired about a delay in the delivery of a consignment. This led to an argument following which Vijay and others attacked Karthik. The incident took place near the canteen around 5 p.m. Other advocates who were at the scene intervened and tried to protect Karthik. “Enraged over this Vijay, Muthu and others brandished aruval, knife and clubs and threatened the advocates. A large number of advocates gathered there and chased Vijay and his associates. In the melee, Muthu was injured,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Flower Bazaar) T.S. Anbu said. Police arrested Vijay while Muthu and Karthik were admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital where their condition was said to be stable. Joint Commissioner of Police (North) N.K. Senthamarai Kannan visited the scene. High Court police are investigating, police sources said.
