BANGALORE: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has decided to invite Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the inauguration of the Reach-1 of Bangalore Metro Rail. Announcing this in the Legislative Council here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said Reach-1 between Byappanahalli and MG Road will be opened for commercial operations soon. Oscillation tests have commenced on Reach-1. The Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) of the Indian Railways has been conducting speed trials and emergency breaking distance trials as part of these tests. The tests are expected to go on till this month-end after which the RDSO will submit a certificate to the Commissioner for Railway Safety. The Commissioner may conduct the safety tests thereafter and recommend opening of the stretch for commercial operations if he is satisfied with the safety standards. Earlier, April 4 was set as the date for beginning of commercial operations for the Metro by the State Government. However, it got delayed as the safety certificate was yet to be obtained and some civil works were pending. Referring to comments by BJP senior leader L.K. Advani that he was not satisfied with the happenings in Karnataka, Mr. Yeddyurappa said Mr. Advani had told him that he was happy with the development works, but not satisfied with the Government's image. Blaming the Opposition for this, Mr. Yeddyurappa said he would take steps to makeover the image within six months.
