Collector inspects fair price shop

Collector C.T. Manimekalai inspecting a fair price shop in Villupuram on Wednesday
VILLUPURAM: C.T.Manimekalai who took charge as the Collector of Villupuram district on Wednesday told presspersons that she would strive for the overall development of the district, particularly for the economic empowerment of women.
She would work in close coordination with School Education Minister C.Ve.Shanmugham, who is a local MLA, to elevate the educational status of the district to the first place in the State.
Ms. Manimekalai said that she would initiate all possible measures to redress the grievances of the people.
The Collector also noted that the free rice scheme, inaugurated by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on June 1, had taken off well in Villupuram district.
Alreary 56 per cent of the eligible ration cardholders and 69 per cent of the beneficiaries identified under the Antyodaya Annayojana scheme had lifted their entitlements.
Soon after taking charge, Ms Manimekalai inspected a fair price shop in the vicinity to the Collectorate and verified the register and the stock position.
